While some wait for the market to bounce back, we’ve embraced the volatility. People are still selling, refinancing, and even buying — just more carefully. We may not be able to control the market, but we can ensure our clients feel heard and supported. From the founders We hit a milestone we never expected when we started Ownright: our first viral video. It’s been viewed more than 6 million times across YouTube, Instagram, and TikTok, with over a million views on each platform. Not bad for a real estate lawyer. We know that most people aren’t actively searching for legal explainers. It’s niche by design. That’s why, alongside our educational content, we create videos that show our culture and bring some humour into the mix. Real estate law is highly technical, but it doesn’t mean it can’t be human. Why does this matter to you? Clients choose agents they feel connected to. Show your personality in what you share, not just your expertise, and you’ll stand out as someone they can trust. Joel Fox COO Legal Corner: Co-ownership disputes Q: What usually causes disputes between co-owners? A: Most fights come down to money or control. Unequal contributions to mortgage payments, disagreements about renovations, or one owner wanting to sell while the other doesn’t are the most common triggers. Q: What do clients face if a dispute escalates? A: In many cases, one owner takes the other to court to force the sale of the property. That means the home often sells below market value, both sides rack up legal fees, and the process can take months to resolve. Q: How can agents help clients avoid disputes? A: Ask the right questions early. If you sense buyers are pooling resources, flag the need for a co-ownership agreement and refer them to a lawyer before they sign anything. That simple step can prevent years of conflict. Headlines & Homes: BMO warns of bubble risk BMO economists are warning that if the Bank of Canada cuts rates too quickly, housing demand could surge and reignite bubble-like conditions. Canada’s market has been cooling for years, but aggressive easing could reverse that trend fast. Their view is that affordability pressures have not disappeared, and a rapid rebound in demand without matching supply would add fuel to an already stretched market. Our take: Clients may see headlines like this and get spooked. Remind buyers and sellers that while national risks make news, decisions are made one deal at a time. Keep clients focused on fundamentals, not fear. Client spotlight: The Morrisons – juggling a purchase and sale Buying and selling at the same time can be one of the most stressful parts of real estate. After 17 years in their family home, Jeff and Lisa were ready for a fresh start in a new neighbourhood, but managing both transactions at once felt overwhelming. They turned to Ownright on a friend’s recommendation. What could have been a difficult process was made simple through clear communication, real-time updates, and a virtual closing meeting with Edward that gave them confidence every step of the way. The convenience of handling everything digitally fit perfectly into their lifestyle.
