Brampton market snapshot

Brampton's market cooled through June, with prices easing across every home type against last year and a typical home taking about a month to sell. Detached homes and townhouses softened together, so buyers have more room and less competition than a year ago.

Frequently asked questions

Yes. In Ontario a lawyer is legally required to close a purchase or sale. We review your agreement, search title, handle the land transfer tax, and register the deal, and Ownright does all of it online for a flat, transparent fee.

In Brampton you pay only Ontario's land transfer tax; there is no municipal LTT. On an $890,000 home that's about $14,275, or roughly $10,275 for a first-time buyer after the $4,000 provincial rebate.

Yes, but only if it's legal. A basement apartment in Brampton has to be registered with the city and meet fire and building codes to count as a legal second unit. Plenty aren't, so before you close we confirm the unit is actually registered and compliant, not just advertised as legal.

The risk lands on the buyer. Brampton can order an unregistered unit removed, fines reach $25,000, and insurers can deny a fire or flood claim on an illegal apartment. We check the unit's status before closing so you're not the one left holding it.

Yes. Brampton has no municipal land transfer tax, so you skip the second tax Toronto charges. Land transfer tax on an $890,000 home is about $14,275 in Brampton versus roughly $28,550 in Toronto. You'll still budget for legal fees, title insurance, and disbursements.

Yes. For a Brampton condo, Ownright reviews the status certificate, the reserve fund, the rules, and any special assessments, so you know the building's financial health before you close.
